I learned many things in Nepal and had some phenomenal experiences. From KVPT to the Home for Rescue of the Afflicted Children (HORAC), Nepal provided an amazingly varied experience... There are many things still needed, and to learn more about or donate to the Katmandu Valley Preservation Trust visit http://www.kvptnepal.org/ There are also many things still needed at the children's home (more beds, help with the kitchen, money for food, fix the bathroom, more books, some toys, school supplies, etc. etc. etc... Feel free to donate here and I can get the money to Kamal, and if you want to learn more and see the kids please visit http://www.horac.org/ I fell in love with K.B. Shaw, his wife, and all those kids, so if anyone can help me make their lives better, please email me, or if you want to send ANYTHING directly to the kids the address is:
Home for Rescue of the Afflicted Children P.O. Box 21214 Gusingal Chok, Kupandol, Lalitpur Katmandu, NEPAL To email them:

New toys, bunk beds, and movie night! |
| Our final day at the children's home, and it was a good one... Since they were so kind to Louis on his birthday, he and Mie went out and bought toys for the whole house! Watching the kids go from 3 puzzles to bags of toys made me get to see what it's like to be Santa! We also got everything purchased for the sun-shade (thanks to Dennis Frech) and got it finished, ordered bunk beds for 16 kids (thank you NELSON FAMILY and MATT ORIENTER for buying beds for these kids!), and then we had a movie night! They rarely even have power at the house, let alone a TV, so I took my laptop over and we watched Wall-E and all had a great time... Thank you to my new friends and volunteers (Mie, Louis, Thea, and Laura), for those of you who contributed so we could make a difference there, and to the wonderful people at the home for showing us love, feeding us the best Dhal Bat in Nepal, and for letting us just spend time with them... |

The only place large enough for the whole family to be together is on the roof - but it gets over 120 degrees in the summer... So, we decided to build an awning that could be moved around the roof, would keep out the rain, and can be moved aside during the nice days! ...and I also learned that I should never do video without a hat during those really bad hair days...
The people at the home went out of their way tonight to create a lovely birthday party for Louis - all the kids made homemade cards, we had a "cake" (a big tray of cookies with a candle in the middle), and the kids all sang their version of Happy Birthday... Such an amazing end of the day... |

We figured that if we could get a big enough tank, we could put it above the "shed" and fill it with water from an electric pump a few hours a day. Then we could run a line along a wall and provide taps for them to use for washing - their first "shower" ever! They had a pump and could get the water, and thanks to Susan Carras and Stephanie McAndrew, I was able to order a tank. They were also out of rice and a few necessities, and I headed out to get that too... It was a very special day as well, because while in Tibet I met four people from Denmark and we all became fast friends. When we found out we were all coming back to Katmandu on the same flight, I asked if they'd help me out and they were more than willing... Thank you Louis, Mie, Thea, and Laura for making this such a special day for all of us.
THEA with two admirers... We got the biggest reward of all with amazing dinner of Dal Bhat - the staple food in Nepal which is rice, lentils, curried vegetables... |
