The other day, I asked Gwenn to accompany me on a visit to Pinchinat - Jacmel's largest refugee site - where about 7,000 people live in "tents" fashioned from sticks and rags. This is also the place I recently met Angelina Jolie (where my excitement made me everything except coherent). She gave me a hug at the end of our exchange (I think only out of pity for my inability to string three words together in front of her) - yeah, it was overwhelming for me to actually see her in Haiti - which made talking difficult.
ANYWAY, as Gwenn and I walked around, I watched people's faces light up with surprise at hearing this "blanc" ask, in perfect Creole, "How can we help you?" After speaking with them, Gwenn decided to go home and get packets of diapers from her own orphanage and hand them out to women in the camp.
There's been a wonderful medical team here from North Carolina working at Pinchinat, and they've been kind enough to allow me to spend a bit of time with them - again, amazing work being done here...
I have personally contributed to their projects, and CAA chose Global Colors to launch our volunteer program in South Africa and Mozambique. I believe the work they do in the U.S. and around the world is commendable, and I strongly endorse the support of Global Colors.
